Woodville’s World of Wonder
I want our whole primary school – ages 4 to 11 to be kids again! I want to get them creating and exploring and to be using recycled materials for a purpose and to be proud of what they achieve. I want parents to participate in recognising kids’ creativity and to take that chance to be big kids themselves. I also want to inspire teaching staff to build STEM into the curriculum at our UK school as we don’t have STEM. U.K kids are being let down by our Education system and engineering and problem-solving is being put at the bottom of the pile; smothered by literacy and Maths (and sports). Our future depends so much on the skills kids are being denied access to, and it’s so important that we encourage originality, fun and Cain’s attitude and to recognise that no matter how old you are playing IS learning!

Gombert Elementary School 3rd Grade Cardboard Challenge
As we unpack boxes of supplies, we are left with perfectly good cardboard boxes. Why not use them to build and create!?! I will read aloud two books, “What Do You Do With an Idea?” and “What to Do With a Box”. Then I will allow students time to plan, design and build anything! This year I decided I will show the original Caine’s Arcade video after the students build, because last year many wanted to make arcade games when I showed the video before my Cardboard Box Challenge. This year I wanted the sky to be the limit, without any preconceived ideas. We will offer the students many left over craft items, along with other recycled items like egg cartons, paper towel tubes, toilet paper rolls, bottle tops, construction paper scraps, etc.
