Woodville’s World of Wonder
I want our whole primary school – ages 4 to 11 to be kids again! I want to get them creating and exploring and to be using recycled materials for a purpose and to be proud of what they achieve. I want parents to participate in recognising kids’ creativity and to take that chance to be big kids themselves. I also want to inspire teaching staff to build STEM into the curriculum at our UK school as we don’t have STEM. U.K kids are being let down by our Education system and engineering and problem-solving is being put at the bottom of the pile; smothered by literacy and Maths (and sports). Our future depends so much on the skills kids are being denied access to, and it’s so important that we encourage originality, fun and Cain’s attitude and to recognise that no matter how old you are playing IS learning!

In the morning there is an official cardboard competition: in teams of 2 children build a solution for sustainable challenges of businesses and municipalities of the region. A sustainable government building, a solution to the problem of flooding after heavy rainfall and a sustainable truck for a moving company. The creative minds of the children open up future opportunities for the businesses!
In the afternoon the building area is open for everyone! There are Makedo tools for everyone, cardboard resources to build with and hot chocolate to keep the energy high!
This challenge is made possible by many organizations from the region. They’ve hosted workshops in the weeks before the event, supplied building material and promoted the event in all possible ways. This joint effort has made it possible to realize this event at very short notice and brings a lot of opportunities for next editions of the GCC in the Netherlands!

Slippery Rock Community Cardboard Challenge
Right now, many of us may be finding ourselves with both an over-abundance of time at home (from practicing good social distancing) and an over-abundance of cardboard boxes (from all those deliveries). I was inspired by the Cardboard Challenge story, and would now like to challenge my Elementary Art Students and those interested in the Slippery Rock Community to use both of these resources and make something new – re-use the boxes or other recycled materials (like toilet paper rolls or empty hand sanitizer bottles) to create a sculpture, arcade game, or anything you like. When all this passes, we will host an exhibition to showcase what our community made. For now we can share our creations online.
Please watch Caine’s Arcade, Season 2 on You Tube to see how the Global Cardboard challenge began and to get inspired
